Practical Tips for Better Health

Practical Tips for Better Health

Following, from Dr. Patricia Ryan and the Alternatives staff, are tips on how to achieve better health in practical ways:

  • More exercise doesn’t necessarily mean more weight loss.  “Exercising too much can actually increase cortisol levels in the blood, making it more difficult to lose weight,” Dr. Ryan said.

  • Don’t forget the strength training.  “Many people believe that all they need is cardio-vascular exercise, but weight training is an important part of a balanced exercise program,” according to Dr. Ryan.

  • Getting plenty of sleep is vital to weight loss and better health.  “Recent studies have shown that adults actually need at least nine and a half hours of sleep each night to be healthy,” Dr. Ryan said.  “Adequate rest also plays an important role in losing weight.”

  • Increase your intake of vegetables.  Broccoli, cabbage, tomatoes and green leafy vegetables are powerful antioxidants.

  • Believe in your own basic goodness.  Never underestimate the power of positive thinking.
